Shopping centres are currently undergoing a significant transformation away from the traditional retail model and moving toward an customer experience model. This customer experience model provides visitors to the centre with a broad range of activities, be it entertainment or dining. The purpose of providing these experiences is to attract visitor to the centre without their primary motive being to shop.
This experience model must, of course, extend to the younger visitors of the centre. Families will make the effort for their children to have a special experience. So centres that invest in a centrepiece playground which provides children with a special experience will attract the families of these children.
Centrepiece playgrounds need to be extraordinary and provide an experience beyond a traditional retail playground. They need to be larger, involve more exciting events and take advantage of the centre’s architecture. The centrepiece playgrounds we have designed use large module play and silo play structures that can provide height, slides and curves to provide the centre’s young visitors with a truly memorable experience. The centrepiece structure at Rhodes Waterside in Sydney:
- is 6 metres high;
- has a bright green spiral slide; and
- includes a bridge over one of the centre’s inclinators!
